Hello and welcome to an interview series that will introduce the artists of our monthly themed categories at AnimalsPlantsNature group! April is Flowers, Trees, & Plants month and so we're exciting to be bringing you an interview with a well-known flower photographer to get a closer look at his photography and his thoughts behind the artwork he submits to the DeviantArt community... John-Peter!

Who is John-Peter? Tell us a bit about yourself!

:iconjohn-peter:
Hi! :) (Smile) I'm a 20 year old Brazilian photographer. I found DA some years ago because, as other members, I was just looking for beautiful art. After a time, I decided to create a DA account and started collect some favorites. After about six months, I decided to put some of my photos I was taking in my gallery.

I got some feedback and saw how gratifying it was share art with others. Actually I've been a member of the DA community for about four years.  Photography is a hobby or, in my vision, a way to share how I see some things of nature. I like gardening, writing, and I especially like to see nature at every moment. Even if it looks strange, sometimes I just sit in a place with nature around and stay quiet for a good time watching a tree or even some simple plants growing around.

How did you get started in flower and plant photography?

:iconjohn-peter:
I don't remember exactly how I started this, but it was in a simple way: Just taking photos of things I like. Actually, I take photos of various things, such as animals, landscapes or even people, but I give more attention to nature than any other type of photography.

What photography equipment do you use for your photos?

:iconjohn-peter:
Currently I'm using a Canon T3i (Same Canon 600D), with a 50mm f/1.8 canon lens with some simple close up filters. I also have a basic 18-55mm lens, which I use in some landscape photos.

Can you tell us how you created this photo?

Little Worlds by John-Peter

:iconjohn-peter:
To be honest, I was just walking in the morning, searching for some interesting thing to photograph, when I found one of my favorite things of the morning: Grass with dew!

So I took some photos of a little place where the grass was growing with wild flowers. I took a long time after taking this photo to decide whether or not to edit it and see how it turned out. When I opened it and took some time looking it over, I realized how beautiful it could be. So I started the editing. It took me some time and much patience, but it turned in a way I like.

What is the most challenging part of flower and plant photography for you?

:iconjohn-peter:
Every photo has its own challenge, but I like them in their own way. Photography needs patience and I like how it helps you to be more creative. :D (Big Grin)

Do you have any advice for new or experienced nature photographers?

:iconjohn-peter:
Don't be afraid to try and do photography. Try to see the things around you, the little details of the plants or nature. Even simple grass or growing weeds have a special beauty. If you can, try to shoot at morning or at the end of the day, during sunset, because in these moments the light is soft and is better for creating bokeh and good backlight!

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your work, John-Peter!
